The metal was reserved only for the most exquisite of weapons, and was extremely tedious to forge and shape. Songsteel was highly resistant to lightsaber strikes in a manner similar to phrik and cortosis.
During the Confederation Rock Rush, the Heroes of Cularin discovered deposits of songsteel on an asteroid in the Cularin system asteroid belt.
He is also an accomplished fisherman and chef, especially of Gaian cuisine and seafood.

Songsteel weaponsmith - Better save your credits and or Calamari Flan, this stuff is expensive, and B'Taran is very picky as to whom he will make a weapon for. He has a strict policy of not making items for affiliated and trained force-users.
Base of Operations: Apartment above his Sushi & Noodle bar: "River-side Sushi" - a lovely place on Naboo. Come on in for a drink, freshly caught seafood, and traditional Gaian cuisine.
As an amphi-mammalian, B'Taran is able to catch much of his own fish with ease, although these days, his son Saido, does most of the fishing, and diving for clams.
In his backyard, separate from his bar and apartment, is a large and very well secured shed, where he crafts Songsteel weapons. He is very selective with what commissions he takes.

Background:
Born about 533 years before the Naboo War, B'Taran of Gaia was a weapon smith for many years, and long time friend of Seikar. For decades, he crafted all manner of tools for combat, for military and civilian alike, as well as teaching many Gaians how to craft their own blade to aid in the Rite of Survival.
When things ended between him and his now ex-wife, he left Gaia to open a business on Zeltros, where he, and his eldest son Saido, as well as Saido's family, run a small Sushi bar.
The priesthood of Gaia, gave B'Taran the Outlander name of "The Blacksmith," and he lived on Zeltros, until a year and a half after the Naboo War, when he moved his business to Naboo, for its excellent fishing spots.
He also makes weapons out of Songsteel, impervious to lightsabres. To work with such metal is a rare skill, one he has been teaching to Saido. A little side-business that pays very well.
