Species: Viodian (¾) / Zoolfadian (¼ from his paternal grandfather)
Originating on Viodia, they live mostly underground, due to the surface being subject to frequent terrible storms, and areas of high level radiation (all Viodians possess low level radiation resistance).
Due to the harsh conditions, of Viodia, there are frequent clan wars and conflicts, causing some to leave for other worlds.
The females of this species are all born optically blind, with their other senses heightened to a level that compensates for this, to the point that their hearing acts as a sort of radar sense, letting them detect their physical environment using sound.
They eventually gain optical sight, as they reach puberty or adulthood (the age varies), causing their heightened senses become reduced to a much lower level of sensitivity, but still greater than those of a human--but all Viodians, regardless of gender, will gain a massive increase to their other senses, if they are permanently or long term blinded, for any reason--as a result, there are some Viodian clans and gangs, who deliberately blind themselves to unlock their special senses, knowing they will still possess physical environment perception.
Muteba was injured in battle and rather than be treated, he became used to using his Viodian hunter's senses for a time. He later gained cybernetic implants that he could deactivate at will, and as a result, has these abilities—but only when his implants are switched off:
-
Enhanced hearing: Muteba can hear a heartbeat from several metres away, often using this to discern if someone is lying. He can sense his physical environment using sound, with what he calls a "radar sense." He can also hear in ultrasonic and infrasonic frequencies.
-
Enhanced sense of scent and taste: He can identify individual beings by scent alone, and can track fresh scent trails, similar to a vornskr hound. He can identify various chemical types, and discern the most minute quantities of ingredients in a meal, that would be normally be undetectable. He can even smell ozone caused if infrared beams, and much more.
-
Enhanced sense of touch: Even if faced with something that has no sound or scent, he can feel heat emanation in the air, the slightest change of air currents, read print by touch, and guess at colours based on the heat they reflect. This sense also gives him a greater sense of balance, and allows him to feel the weak points in strong substances, assuming there are any.
-
Unique blood: Viodians are highly resistant to common blood borne pathogens, blood poisoning and lower levels of radiation, due to their unique blood, which is composed entirely of leukocytes that also carry oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. Their blood is white, not red, and they are universal donors and receivers.
-
Skin colour changing: As he is one quarter Zoolfadian on his father's side, he also has the ability to consciously alter his skin colour, and has learned how to create the appearance of tribal tattoos, but can hide them at will. He seems to possess no other Zoolfadian special abilities, and is quite short compared to most Zoolfadians.
As a result of his abilities, he is unable to see optically, meaning he can't see view-screens or holograms, except to guess at heat reflected by the illuminated colours, or light affecting the air particles.
While he can feel ink on paper, it is more common for people to use digital devices with touch screens, and he can't feel ink on laminated paper--to use most devices, or to pilot a ship, if he can't access his implants, he relies on tactile interface, that forms a three dimensional image, that his radar sense can detect.
While hypersonics won't affect his radar sense, as the sound would only highlight his physical surroundings more, but they are very painful, and diminish his ability to communicate verbally, and at some levels, to concentrate.
With his sense of smell, he is highly vulnerable to pheromone attacks, and some chemicals can hide scent trails, others can cause nausea.
Muteba was given cybernetic eyes, after his sightless organic eyes were ripped out, while competing in an underground fighting tournament.
Expecting to receive mere cosmetic implants, he found that his employer at the time, wanted to test a new model of prosthetic ocular device. Being Viodian with special senses, there was no risk, even if the implants failed, and he would still have something to fill his empty eye-sockets.
With his cybernetic mods, he has the following vision modes:
-
Normal sight
-
Infra-red
-
Vibration sensing
-
Magnification zoom
-
Bio-scan vision
The cybernetic eyes can remotely connected to a comlink, and/or a datapad, to record and/or transmit what he sees. The record/transmit modes can be used in what he calls "Disconnect viewing mode," or "DV mode," allowing the eyes to operate, while not connected to his visual cortex, to let him use his enhanced "hunter" senses. While the programming of his mods generally prevents most forms of remote slicing, he can use DV mode in an emergency, against a sufficiently advanced slicer, while simply closing his eyes, since he would then only need his ears to see.
When in use, his eyes also have a HUD that can show data, when connected to a datapad or similar, which can be used for surreptitiously receiving mission dossiers and other data, while in the field.
Switching between the use of his cybernetic eyes, or his Viodian enhanced senses, takes time to adjust, and for the brief period of visual transition, his senses are greatly reduced. Also, when his cyber-mods are activated, his senses of hearing, scent, taste and touch, are normal for the duration.
The last feature of his eyes, allows them to change colour and appearance at will, meaning he does not have the usual swirling cloud-like formations, that most Viodians possess. While he usually prefers an eerie, full-white eye look, he can make his eyes appear human, feline, canine, or whatever he wishes.
However, his eyes are vulnerable to EMP attacks and similar. Even when not in use, an EMP will cause him great pain, and disable his eyes for a time.

Background:
Muteba was born and raised on Ord Mantell, until he enlisted in the Republic Army at the age of eighteen. Two years into his second tour, he was badly injured and lost his sight, when his squad was ambushed, due to a bad intel, and not for the first time. Having become disillusioned with the military, he used his blindness as reason to justify being discharged, neglecting to mention his Viodian heritage, which meant he could still see using his sense of hearing.
He went on to become a mercenary and works for the highest bidder, within reason, as he's developed a very flexible sense of morality.
In time, he met Tomari, a client who tasked him with testing out a new model of cybernetic ocular implants, which he has kept and made use of.
